On Friday, November 28, 2025, the sisters of the Kekeli Center of Hanoukokpé and their beneficiaries gathered for a march to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna.
The walk began at the Kekeli Center itself. From there, the sisters and the entire community walked through the streets of the Hanoukopé neighborhood until they reached the square in front of the Lébénè hotel. The march was enlivened by a brass band to give more visibility to the participants, who encouraged them with melodies sung in chorus to forget the fatigue and move forward with courage.
“This march is a symbolic pilgrimage that takes us toward a great event: the bicentennial of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna, who will celebrate 200 years of mission and service on February 26, 2026.” – Maguy Bwandala, ccv
As we move forward together on this path, we want to:
- To give thanks for two centuries of dedication, education, care and charity.
- To honor the spiritual legacy transmitted by Saint Joaquina de Vedruna.
- To manifest our unity as a living community, oriented towards hope and fraternity.
The tour was an opportunity for the beneficiaries of the Kekeli Center, some 80 women from the Hanoukopé market, to express their joy. For example, Eva Agbodjan-Amedé, said:
“Thanks to the sisters, my companions and I have learned to count, to calculate, to read and write, and we know that we have rights; the different trainings make us economically autonomous, we are taken care of in terms of health and our children’s education is assured, plus we manage to save a little money.”
On the way to the Congregation’s Bicentennial, the Kekeli Center clearly represents the liberating aspect of our charism.
