Along the way, she embraced three distinct vocations: she was a devoted mother of nine children, a resilient widow and, finally, the foundress of a religious congregation.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On May 22, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Joaquina de Vedruna. As we celebrate her feast day, let us take this opportunity to deepen our understanding of her spiritual richness and be inspired by her extraordinary virtues. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 1. St. Joaquina de Vedruna as Mother <\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1st Day of the Triduum in honor of St. Joaquina de Vedruna (May 22)\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Rt3bx3ofl-Y?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we begin this Triduum, let us delve deeper into Joaquina&#8217;s life as a mother. God called her to motherhood on two occasions: first, to a distinguished and blessed family with many children, and later, to the spiritual family she herself founded: the Carmelites of Charity, affectionately known as the &#8220;Vedruna Sisters.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In her married life, Joaquina was an example of a Christian wife and mother. The same tenderness she felt for God, she poured it wholeheartedly on her husband and children.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even when she experienced profound spiritual revelations in prayer, she never neglected her duties as a wife and mother. She considered biological motherhood not only as a role, but as a sacred mission entrusted to her by God. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She was both teacher and mother to her young children. Each morning, her children&#8217;s day began with her tracing the sign of the cross on their foreheads as they awoke. With untiring patience, she set them an example of the Christian life, instilling in them a deep and devoted love for God.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">St. Joaquina&#8217;s tenderness and love for her children embodied divine motherhood. This love was the key to the education of her children; as Pope John XXIII said: <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;She is the model of a Christian mother who successfully raised her children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This rich maternal experience provided her with a perspective uncommon among religious founders. It allowed her to guide her spiritual daughters with an amazing degree of thoughtfulness, insight and a protective love that only a mother can truly provide. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 2. St. Joaquina de Vedruna as a widow <\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2nd Day of the Triduum in honor of St. Joaquina de Vedruna (May 22)\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cIkPMdqS9lw?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yesterday we reflected on Joaquina&#8217;s life as a mother. Today we contemplate her trajectory as a widow. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Joaquina&#8217;s husband died, she began a new phase as a widowed mother. Despite her noble social position, she consciously chose a life of extreme simplicity. She moved into the humblest room in her house, stripping her surroundings of all luxury. Her wooden bed had only a thin old mat; she used a stone as a pillow, and her meals were incredibly modest, often consisting of nothing more than the leftovers of others.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His deep love of God enabled him not only to endure poverty, but to truly embrace it. Even when she possessed valuables, she took them to the Capuchin church in Vic as an offering to her beloved Blessed Mother. For herself, she chose the path of active charity. Every week she visited the House of Charity to perform the most humble tasks, serving the poor and marginalized with a deep and sincere humility.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, every consecrated soul, every mother and every widow can find in Joaquina a model worthy of imitation:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consecrated sisters can learn from her how to serve and offer their lives to God with a truly joyful heart.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wives can learn to care for and educate their children with a spirit of prudence and a cheerful heart.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Those who have lost their husbands can learn to cope with grief and hardship, choosing to let go of perishable earthly attachments to seek the eternal treasures of Heaven.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 3. St. Joaquina de Vedruna as a Seeker <\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"3rd Day of the Triduum in honor of St. Joaquina de Vedruna (May 22)\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gHae_mRYGSs?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond her roles as mother and widow, Joaquina de Vedruna was a seeker, someone who dedicated her whole life to seeking God&#8217;s will. As she sought constant union with the Lord through the Eucharist, her faith and trust grew profoundly, leading her to a deeper intimacy with Him. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In moments of spiritual struggle or inner pain, Joaquina did not seek human consolation. Instead, she found her strength at the feet of Christ on the Cross. She would often retreat to the attic of her home, where the structural beams formed a cross, and remain there in prayer for hours.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seeking God&#8217;s will was the driving force behind everything he did. In his letters, he wrote: <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;May God&#8217;s will be fully accomplished by all means.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In another, he stated:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I will what God wills; in all things, that the will of our beloved God be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Joaquina, seeking God in a perfect way demanded a total detachment from worldly things, which allowed her to dedicate herself completely to the Supreme Being, the only one capable of satisfying the yearnings of the human heart. This is how she reminded the sisters of her congregation: &#8220;Only the love of God is enduring; all else passes away.
