Between April and June 2026, Sister General Mar\u00eda Teresa Cuervo and members of the General Council will visit several regions of the Vedruna Province in Europe. <\/p>\n\n

This is the first account of their visit, which took place between April 2 and 21, during which they spent time with communities in Galicia, Extremadura, and Salamanca. Some sisters from the European Provincial Team accompanied them during parts of their journey. <\/p>\n\n

Galicia<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

In the autonomous community of Galicia, we visited the municipalities of Vigo, Gallegos, and Ourense. <\/p>\n\n

<\/strong>Vigo<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Here, the three sisters of the community, together with four educators, run the Vigo Family Home<\/strong> project, where they care for nine children of various ages. We joyfully share some moments from the children\u2019s lives at the house, marveling at their way of seeing life, such as when, for her birthday, the youngest girl received a pair of sneakers, and on the day she wore them for the first time, she said, \u201cThese shoes carry me on their own; I don\u2019t need to walk\u2014they carry me as if through the air.\u201d This leads us to reflect on how little we need to be happy, and that we should always hold onto the sense of wonder and admiration that children have. <\/p>\n\n

While they were at school, we sisters held a community sharing session on the work and reflections we had planned regarding synodality and shared leadership. We also had the opportunity to share and carry out part of our work at the Benedictine sisters\u2019 monastery<\/strong>. With great care and attention to detail, they welcomed us with a delicious snack made with products they grow themselves for their own sustenance, and provided us with everything we needed for our work. <\/p>\n\n

We also visited the Vedruna Mar\u00eda Inmaculada School in Vigo. <\/strong>There we met with members of the administration, who shared with us their enthusiasm and commitment to Joaquina\u2019s educational charism. Like many schools, this one is experiencing a decline in enrollment due to low birth rates and the many other school options available in the city. <\/p>\n\n

We greatly appreciate their work and dedication, especially this year as they celebrate their centennial, for which they have been awarded the city\u2019s gold medal for educational excellence, with special recognition given to their early and progressive music education program. <\/p>\n
