Pilgrims and pilgrims because we were called: Vocation month celebration in Brazil

The month of August, in Brazil, is dedicated in a special way to vocations. Each Sunday focuses on a specific vocation:

  • First Sunday: Priestly and diaconal vocation.
  • Second Sunday: Marriage vocation and beginning of Family Week.
  • Third Sunday: Vocation to the consecrated life.
  • Fourth Sunday: Vocation of the Christian layperson and catechist.

This celebration originated in 1981, during the General Assembly of the CNBB (National Conference of Bishops of Brazil), and was also assumed by the CRB (Conference of Religious of Brazil), as well as by the whole Church, the People of God.

Each year, the SAV (Vocation Animation Service) proposes a specific theme accompanied by a biblical text, with the aim of enlightening commitment and encouraging vocational awakening.

This year, on the occasion of the Jubilee, we were accompanied by the theme and the biblical text:

“Pilgrims and pilgrims because we were called”.

“Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts” (Romans 5:5).

In the different places where we are present in Brazil, we were able to live and celebrate this month together with the people.
We also celebrated it among ourselves, as Vedruna religious, together with other charisms, on the occasion of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady.

We take this opportunity to promote meetings and experiences with young people, both in our communities and in the different pastoral ministries.
