On the first Sunday of Advent, the Vedruna Community of Carnaubeira da Penha, in the state of Pernambuco, belonging to the Diocese of Floresta-PE, welcomed with great joy the representatives of the Vedruna Charismatic Family of Salgueiro-PE. In the community reside Sisters
We lived a profound encounter that strengthened our community and missionary journey, rekindling hope for the year 2026, when we will celebrate the Bicentenary of the Congregation of the Carmelites of Charity Vedruna. More than a commemoration, the Bicentennial is an invitation to revisit our history, to be grateful for the road we have traveled and to renew our commitment to education, health, the promotion of life and our compassionate presence among the most needy.
The meeting was attended by Sister General María Teresa Cuervo Buitrago, and Sisters Magdalen D’Acosta, member of the General Team, and Clara Schlinckmann, Delegate of the country. We shared the Foundational Charter and deepened our reflection on the symbols of the Bicentenary, which encourage us to follow Jesus Charity with courage and joy.
There was also the reading of the Northeast Project (under construction), in an atmosphere of listening and discernment, seeking to strengthen the Vedruna presence in the region and promote joint actions of care, evangelization and living the charism. The moment generated enthusiasm and unity among sisters and laity.
The day concluded with gratitude and hope. The simplicity of the community and the spirit of communion renewed the desire to continue making life a mission moved by generous love, born of the Heart of God and lived with the audacity of St. Joaquina.
