Students from three educational communities gathered in San Felipe to share their faith, strengthen their bonds of fellowship, and renew their commitment to the mission, as part of the Congregation’s bicentennial celebrations.
From October 9 to 11, young people from the Santa Joaquina de Vedruna School in Puente Alto; the Santa Rosa School in Constitución; and the Vedruna School in San Felipe participated in the National Vedruna Youth Gathering, held in San Felipe. The experience helped strengthen ties among the communities, deepen their understanding of Vedruna spirituality, and renew their missionary commitment.
The delegations, accompanied by their teachers and chaperones, arrived on the afternoon of October 8 and were welcomed with a dinner, despite the heavy rain. Afterward, they shared a moment of communal prayer to kick off the gathering.
The 9th was devoted to various educational and reflective activities on the life and legacy of Saint Joaquina de Vedruna, as well as on the meaning of carrying out mission work in today’s world. They also traced the history of the Congregation’s presence in Chile, recognizing the roots of a charism that continues to inspire new generations. Through the testimonies of young people who participated in the gathering in Vic, Spain, they were able to recognize themselves as part of a large family spread throughout the world. Each community also presented a cultural showcase of its identity in an atmosphere of joy and fraternity.
On the 10th, the young people made a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Saint Teresa of Los Andes in Auco , where they observed the Stations of the Cross, culminating at the cross located at the top of the hill. It was an experience of spirituality and reflection on faith, hope, and the importance of walking together. Later, they participated in the Mass on the esplanade of the Shrine, alongside thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country. The Vedruna Family was also present, sharing their faith at this important place of pilgrimage.
On Sunday the 11th, they participated in the Mass at the Chapel of Santa Joaquina, together with the local community. Afterward, each delegation planned future missionary initiatives to put into practice the values and lessons learned during the gathering. A prayer of sending closed the day, encouraging the young people to be witnesses to what they had experienced and to continue bringing the mission to life in their communities.
The moments of prayer, shared meals, and various activities created an atmosphere of fellowship, respect, joy, and affection. Beyond the formative experiences, the gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen friendships, share our faith, and recognize ourselves as part of the same Vedruna Family.
And so this experience came to a close, with a renewed invitation to continue bringing the legacy of Saint Joaquina de Vedruna to life. Two hundred years after its inception, the Vedruna charism continues to inspire new generations to walk with hope and to be active participants in a mission that inspires.
Voices Sharing Their Experiences
It was a beautiful and unforgettable experience. I met many people, and we shared games, laughter, learning, and moments of reflection. Although I was afraid at first, the warm welcome at San Felipe made me feel right at home. The activities helped us overcome our shyness, form friendships, and share our experiences. The visit to the Shrine was especially meaningful, as it reaffirmed our faith and unity. Despite the exhaustion and the heat, the excitement and warmth made that moment truly comforting. I realized that God is always with us and that we are never alone on our journey.

The MJV National Gathering was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had, full of memories and special moments. The welcoming atmosphere allowed us to share with joy, affection, and trust. Although I had already participated in similar gatherings, this experience exceeded all my expectations. We visited the Shrine, participated in the Eucharist, and experienced moments of reflection and unity. We also explored San Felipe and spent time with the local Vedruna community. I learned that each person can make a difference when they act with faith, perseverance, love, and commitment. I hope this wonderful Vedruna community continues to grow and helps us become better people.

My trip to San Felipe was a lot of fun. First, I got to spend time with my friends from school, enjoying the trip and discovering new landscapes we weren’t used to seeing. Those were days for learning and sharing with students from other schools—playing, dancing, singing, and bringing out the best in each of us.
Agustina Cruz, Constitución
My experience in San Felipe was truly wonderful and unforgettable. During the gathering, we took part in various activities where we shared laughter and made new friends. I really enjoyed learning more about the life of Saint Joaquina and the communities of Sisters that exist or have existed in Chile. It was wonderful to share our experiences, get to know each other better, and learn from one another.

I am so grateful to have had this experience! From the moment we started organizing it, I was really excited about the idea of welcoming the other Vedruna schools. Plus, it was the first time I’d participated in an event like this. I’ll cherish the friendships I made by connecting with people I didn’t know very well or didn’t know at all, and I’d love to repeat this wonderful experience.
