Sister Thècle Muzinga: Building Partnerships to Create Educational Opportunities in the Peruvian Amazon

Their initiative and commitment made possible a cooperation agreement between the Fe y Alegría Rural Network No. 72 and Premium College in Pucallpa, aimed at promoting more equitable education for riverside communities.

When students cannot reach opportunities, educational opportunities must find a way to reach them.

Guided by this conviction, Sister Thècle Muzinga, a member of the Congregation of the Carmelites of Charity of Vedruna, has been advancing her commitment to the education of girls and boys in the Peruvian Amazon.

From the community of Nuevo San Juan, located nearly two hours from Pucallpa by river, it supports the educational mission of the Fe y Alegría Rural Network No. 72, which serves 18 early childhood and elementary schools along the banks of the Ucayali River.

As part of the celebration of Fe y Alegría’s 60th anniversary in Peru, under the slogan “Transforming Lives, Building a Country, ” Sister Thècle facilitated a partnership with the private educational institution Premium College in Pucallpa. This first meeting provided an opportunity to shed light on the reality of rural schools and raise awareness about the need to join forces to offer better educational opportunities.

Their initiative came to fruition on October 29 with the signing of an inter-institutional cooperation agreement between the two institutions. This partnership will enable them to coordinate efforts, share experiences, and promote joint actions to improve the quality of education and reduce the gaps between urban and rural areas.

This step demonstrates how commitment, trust, and the ability to foster connections can open paths of hope for the most remote communities.

In the year that the Vedruna Congregation celebrates the 200th anniversary of its founding, Sister Thècle’s mission reflects the enduring relevance of a charism that continues to build bridges, serve life, and create opportunities where they are most needed.

With faith, hope, and Jesus at the center, it continues to demonstrate that education also means providing opportunities and building a more just future for everyone.
