In 2025, it will be ten years since Pope Francis established September 1 as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This day, the Feast of Creation, inaugurates what is known as the Season of Creation: the time between September 1 and October 4 when the entire Christian family joins together in a worldwide celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home.
For the Vedruna Family, the care of the planet and the promotion of a spirituality that integrates ecology and social justice are very important, as reflected in these excerpts from the Chapter Document “Born Again”.
At this special time, we celebrate God as Creator, and recognize Creation as the ongoing divine act that summons us as co-workers to love and care for the gift of all creation. While Christmas and Easter commemorate the great mysteries that are the Incarnation and Redemption, Creation is an event and mystery that is often relegated to the background: this feast helps to remind us of this. As followers of Christ around the world, we share a common call to care for Creation, for our well-being is intrinsically related to the well-being of the Earth.
From today until October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the Laudato Si’ Movement and the Time of Creation invite us to become aware of all this, to repent of the negative impact of our actions on the Common Home and to pray for its healing; as well as to honor God as Creator and to commemorate the great mystery of the creation of the world. To this end, we share four invitations open to all Christians, everywhere in the world.
Invitations to live Creation Day
Seeking peace with Creation
The JPIC Team of the Province of Europe reflects in this article on the current situation of wars and conflicts in the world, and the relevance of committing ourselves to justice and respect, of being aware and not being indifferent.
Online Prayer
On Monday, September 1, at 3:00 p.m. Rome time, an online prayer for Zoom will be held. All Christians are invited to participate and celebrate together with joy the common cause. Pre-registration is required.
Praying the Via Creationis
This devotional prayer, inspired by the format of the Stations of the Cross, invites us to reflect on the great mystery of Creation by reading the Book of the Scriptures and the Book of the Cosmos together. Composed of 9 stations, it leads us to prayerfully reflect on the mystery of Creation and praise the Creator for the wonders He has offered.
Creation Time Prayer 2025
PEACE WITH CREATION
Creator of all,
we praise you for the gift of life
and by the faith that unites us in the care of our common home.
We confess how distant we have become:
of each other, of your Creation and of our true essence.
We recognize that our greed and our destructive impulses
have fractured our relationships with you, with each other and with the Earth.
Fertile fields have become barren,
the forests lie desolate,
oceans and rivers are polluted.
Prosperous communities have become places of suffering,
and the Earth cries out.
Beloved Christ,
that you said “Shalom” to fearful hearts,
encourage us to compassionate action.
Inspire us to work for an end to conflict,
and for the full restoration of broken relations.
with you, with the ecumenical community,
with the human family,
and with all Creation.
Prince of Peace,
through your wounds, teach us to be in solidarity with others
with the wounds of others,
of creation and of the world.
In your resurrection,
make us people of hope,
with a vision of swords turned into plowshares
and tears transformed into joy.
