One of the main focuses of Vedruna India is to empower the tribal community. Celebrating World Indigenous Peoples Day on 9 August on a grand scale was one concrete step towards achieving this goal.
The women, hostel girls and boys enthusiastically showcased their tribal customs and culture, with a special focus on preserving and passing on their identity, culture, and values to the next generation.
Members of the women’s organization and the hostel girls took out a rally through the village, carrying placards and raising slogans highlighting tribal culture and calling for the unity of all Indigenous groups as a first step towards claiming their rights. The celebration culminated in a session on tribal culture and tribal rights. The programme created greater awareness among the participants about their traditions, identity, and constitutional rights.
No tribal gathering is complete without their traditional dances. Their movements are in harmony with nature, just as their way of life reflects a deep connection with the natural world. Despite having few material possessions, their lives are filled with joy, which they generously share with others. Everyone joined the tribal group dance, expressing their happiness, solidarity, and sense of togetherness.
