Hearts in Action: A Day of Fellowship and Brotherhood in San Felipe

Spending time together, listening to stories, and spreading joy were some of the moments that defined this experience of service and intergenerational connection.

In the spirit of service, fellowship, and generous love that characterizes the Vedruna Family, on Friday, October 16, members of the Vedruna Youth Mission of San Felipe spent a meaningful day at the San Camilo Soup Kitchen. A delegation of 20 people, including students and teachers, arrived at the soup kitchen with the goal of sharing, offering support, and, above all, giving their time, affection, and joy to those who need it most.

In preparation for the visit, the young people baked muffins the day before, which they then shared with those in attendance, offering a sweet gesture of affection and dedication.

The stars of the day were the seniors who regularly visit the soup kitchen; the event provided a valuable space for them to come together, connect, and spend time with one another. Starting early in the morning, students and teachers worked together on various tasks, such as preparing food and serving lunch. However, the experience was much more than just helping with daily tasks: it became an opportunity to listen to stories, share experiences, and discover the value of being there for others.

Throughout the day, various activities took place that filled the gathering with joy and engagement:

  • Music and fun with karaoke: nostalgic songs had everyone singing, clapping, and enjoying moments of true celebration.
  • Bingo and socializing: young people and seniors enjoyed this classic game together in an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, laughter, and excitement with every call.
  • Clothing Auction: A welcoming and respectful space was set up where each person could freely choose the items of clothing they liked best and needed most.
  • Life and Color Workshops: We decorate handcrafted planters and plant different species together, creating a living memento of this gathering and promoting care for nature.

This experience leaves a lasting impression. For the participating students and teachers, it was much more than just a volunteer activity: it represented an opportunity for learning and personal growth. Interacting with older adults allowed us to recognize the value of their stories, their wisdom, and their life experiences, reminding us that small gestures of companionship, listening, and affection can make a big difference.

As the Vedruna San Felipe Youth Mission, we renew our commitment to live and share the charism of Saint Joaquina de Vedruna, bringing the joy of the Gospel, service, and generous love to every corner of our city.

Because, as the Vedruna Family, we believe that our mission is built on encounters with others, especially those who need to feel welcomed, valued, and supported.

We continue walking with generous love, being hearts in action!
