Since 1993, March 22 has been World Water Day: a date dedicated to highlighting the importance of freshwater, promoting its sustainable management, and raising awareness of the need to combat its scarcity.
Water is a fundamental resource for life on our planet. However, it is constantly threatened by scarcity, pollution and overexploitation of water resources.
To commemorate this day, today we share the story of the awareness-raising activities they carried out in our community in the Democratic Republic of Congo: specifically, in the commune of N’Djili, in the Vedruna school complex in Kinshasa .
We raise awareness and advise our students on the importance of water in our daily lives.
Water is essential for our health and well-being. It intervenes in:
- hydration: our body needs water and we need to drink every day to stay healthy.
- nutrition: water is essential for cooking, growing crops and raising livestock; without it, there would be no food.
- hygiene and health: washing hands, showering, cleaning food.
- the kitchen: everything depends on drinking water.
- industry and economy: the manufacture of objects, the production of electricity and agriculture are highly dependent on water.
We encourage them to save water. For example, by turning off the faucet and taking shorter showers. Water is a precious commodity and every drop counts. By raising awareness from a young age, we contribute to a more sustainable future for everyone.
