Vedruna Sisters Participate in Diocesan Vocation Camps

The Carmelite Sisters of Charity – Vedruna were blessed to take part in two vibrant Diocesan Vocation Camps for girls held in Odisha in May 2025. These camps were organized to promote vocations and offer young Catholic girls a space to discern their call to religious life.

Odisha, located on the eastern coast of India, is a state rich in tribal culture, deep faith, and a strong Catholic presence, especially in the districts of Kandhamal and Gajapati. Known for their spiritual resilience, the faithful in these regions continue to inspire and foster new vocations to the Church.

Sr. Sweta and Sr. Rejina represented the Vedruna congregation at both camps. The first camp was held at Divya Jyoti Pastoral Centre, Kanjamendi, K. Nuagao, Kandhamal, from 13th to 15th May, and saw the participation of 209 girls and 92 sisters from various congregations. The second camp took place at Anugraha Peetho, Mohana, Gajapati, from 14th to 17th May, drawing an even larger group of 340 girls and over 150 sisters.

Throughout both camps, the Vedruna sisters actively engaged in vocation sharing sessions, interactive group activities, and personal conversations with the participants. They presented the Vedruna charism, highlighted the life and mission of St. Joaquina de Vedruna, and shared their own vocational journeys. The sisters were deeply moved by the enthusiasm and openness of the girls, many of whom expressed a sincere desire to explore religious life. Contact details were collected for future follow-up and accompaniment.

Reflecting on the experience, Sr. Sweta shared,

“It was a challenging yet fulfilling experience. We were able to witness firsthand the deep faith and eagerness of so many young girls to respond to God’s call. Personally, it renewed my own vocation and reminded me of the beauty of sharing our life with others.”

The Vedruna congregation expresses gratitude to the diocesan vocation team and all those who made the camps possible. The experience not only created space for encounter and discernment but also strengthened the bond among congregations working together for the Church’s mission.

May the seeds sown during these camps continue to grow and bear fruit in the hearts of those called to follow Christ more closely.
