The art of selfcare: yoga in Vedruna style

Every June 21st, International Yoga Day is celebrated: a day proclaimed by the United Nations in 2014, in recognition of the importance of this ancient practice born in India. In our communities of the Vedruna Province of India, yoga is lived as an educational and formative tool, which accompanies the integral growth of our girls, boys and young people. This practice not only promotes physical and mental health, but also fosters inner harmony and spiritual balance, values deeply integrated in the Indian culture. This year, International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and creativity in many Vedruna schools.

At Ahwa, the day was spent in a particularly inspiring natural environment. Students and teachers gathered at Sunset Point to practice various yoga asanas, breathing techniques and meditation while enjoying the serene surroundings. The peace of the place added depth to a celebration that was very successful and enriching for all participants.

In Bordumsa, the girls from the boarding school were the stars of the day. Thanks to the preparation of Sr. Surekha, they led the yoga session held at Don Bosco School in Galenja, receiving praise for their performance from the school authorities. At Adkur, Diphu, Ghoga, Merubaug and Bhavnagar, the celebration included a practice of yoga postures and breathing exercises, accompanied by an awareness session on the benefits of yoga for physical fitness, mental well-being and spiritual growth. Students of all levels participated with joy and showed great receptivity.

At Meghraj, the girls from the boarding school were highly motivated to participate in guided yoga and breathing sessions. There, as well as in Unai and Sanad, the students and the staff learned about the importance of incorporating this practice into daily life, to promote a healthy lifestyle and walk towards physical and emotional balance.

Finally, in Raichur, even the little ones joined in with energy. The CBSE and infant students performed a yoga dance and demonstrated different postures, filling the celebration with joy and dynamism.

These celebrations reflect the commitment of the Vedruna family to an integral education, which promotes healthy habits, care of the body and inner development, in tune with our roots and the cultural environment where we live.
