We approach the life of St. Joaquina in the Bicentenary

As part of the celebration of the Bicentenary of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna, the Bordumsa community decided to make known to the world the inspiring life of St. Joaquina de Vedruna, our beloved foundress.

As a community, we undertook an in-depth study of her trajectory by reading and reflecting on the book “Joaquina de Vedruna: four lives in one”, written by Sr. Mª Teresa Llach, ccv. In preparation for the feast of Foundation Day, each Sister led a prayer service based on the principal virtues and qualities of St. Joaquina.

The boarding school children who are part of the mission were divided into four groups and given a questionnaire of 100 questions and answers about the Saint and the Congregation . They prepared with great enthusiasm for a week and a quiz competition was organized. The guest of honor for the event was Fr. Regi Mani, SDB, principal of the Don Bosco School in Bordumsa, who conducted the competition in a very creative way using modern technology.

The children were highly motivated and energetic in their responses. All groups performed at an excellent level and scored equally, so prizes were distributed to all. Despite the fact that the children belong to different religions, they showed great interest in learning about the life of St. Joaquina and the work of the sisters.

After the contest, the students were invited to draw scenes from the life of the Foundress based on their knowledge and imagination. They all participated in the drawing contest, beautifully illustrating the various stages and apostolic works of St. Joaquina. Their creativity left us truly amazed.
