Women sustainers of life and generators of hope

What do women hold?

Literally and metaphorically:

glopos and grudges

heavy loads and cabbage

and a stupendous love and courage;

Home, family and children and food friendships and work….

What do women hold?

Memories and problems, sorrows and triumphs.

And love

And the work of the world

And the work of the world

And the work of being human.

Sometimes, when I feel particularly happy or content, I think I can provide sustenance to legions of human beings; I can hold the whole world in my arms. Other times I can barely cross the room.

And I drop my arms, dejected.

It never ends up holding!

And certainly, often, I have the feeling of never doing enough.

Maira Kalman

“What do women hold?” asks Maira Kalman, American, renowned illustrator, writer and designer, whose drawings and poems have been interpreted in this image we share.

And we, as women of hope, what do we stand for? A question to ask ourselves not only on this day when we commemorate the day of women’s struggle for the recognition of their rights, but every day of the year.

If we reread the Chapter Document “Born Again”, we will see how many people, situations, realities… it invites us to support: NdN pg, 4, Nº 1, 5, 16, 17, 18, 20….

We can continue reading, reflecting and discovering that the whole document is a call to sustain LIFE.
