A triple feast of faith, gratitude and freedom on Aug. 15 in the Philippines

On August 15, 2025, the Philippine Delegation had a triple celebration: the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, the 53rd Anniversary of Our Lady’s Home and the 78th Anniversary of India’s Independence.

The Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Fr. Nars Estrella, OP, in the Chapel of the Hogar de Nuestra Señora. In attendance were the inmates, the staff, the sisters of the Delegation House and the president of the ACD (Association of Catholic Homes).

According to the late Pope Benedict XVI, as we contemplate Mary’s path to heaven, we understand that earth is not our final homeland. If we live with our gaze fixed on the eternal, we will one day share in this same glory. The feast of Mary’s Assumption reminds us that we also share her destiny. The Assumption is the culmination of God’s saving work, as Mary ends her earthly life and enters eternity. This feast directs our gaze to where we will go when our earthly life ends. God’s presence through Mary is most effective and perceptible in His love. Like Mary, we have seen the wonders God has worked in our lives.

As we celebrate the 53rd anniversary of Our Lady’s Home Dormitory, we express our deep gratitude to the Triune God for all the blessings and graces we have received during these 53 years. The Dormitory has dared to reach new heights in collaborating with the young women of the local church. Fifty-three years have passed and today we continue with the youth apostolate, a symbol of God’s victory. Many young women have experienced our love and care, providing them with a “home away from home” environment.

We also remember the 78th anniversary of India’s Independence Day, which commemorates the end of British rule in 1947. This day reminds Indians of the beginning of a new beginning, the start of an era of liberation from the clutches of British colonialism for over 200 years. India’s independence was an encounter with destiny, as the struggle for freedom was long and arduous, witnessing the sacrifices of many freedom fighters who gave their lives.

Immediately after the Eucharistic Celebration we gathered for the sumptuous meal.
