August 28 is a significant day in our Congregation since its St. Joaquina’s birthday in heaven. This is the reason why the community prepared chicken rice porridge and banana pudding for snacks.
Together with the Vedruna Lay we happily distributed the simple snacks to some students, teachers of Notre Dame of Pigcawayan High School, neighboring children, tricycle drivers and the people who pass by in front of our community house. They were surprised when we handed to them the food. Most of them asked, "Sisters, what is the special occasion that we received free snacks today?". We happily told them its St. Joaquina’s birthday in heaven. It is our joy to share a simple snack as an expression of remembering the 171st years of her death anniversary.
Looking at St Joaquina’s because of her courage and love for Jesus she remained faithful to God for the rest of her life. A great woman who is our inspiration, model, mother, foundress of the Carmelite Sister of Charity. -Vedruna, she gave herself “All for love nothing by force” the reason for our presence here in Pigcawayan.
As an expression of gratitude and thanksgiving for this encounter, we joyfully sing the song “Joaquina Aming Ina” and a short prayer to conclude our day.
