In relation to the celebration of the 200th Foundation of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna, an activity was held at Tagaytay Tahanan Vedruna Children Center on February 15, 2026. The goal was to make St. Joaquina de Vedruna known to the 50 mothers and 2 fathers, who came from the three slum areas of the locality.
After listening to the song of the Children of Tahanan Vedruna, entitled “Welcome to the family”, two Vedruna sisters gave different talks.
Sr. Judy presented St. Joaquina as an exemplary mother, who responsibly took care of her children, a mother whose concern was for the welfare of her children. Her care and concern for the children was passed on to the present Vedruna sisters who founded the Children Center to shelter and protect the poor, vulnerable and abandoned children from abuses and exploitation.
St. Joaquina was also presented as a role model of the religious, and as a servant who wholeheartedly served Jesus through her brothers and sisters, and who manifested her love, a love that never says enough.
Sr. Rosie presented the short history of the Foundation of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna 200 years ago, and how the Foundress, St. Joaquina, gave herself totally and entrusted the Foundation of the Congregation to God, by giving all the possessions that she had.
She also presented the Foundation of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna in the Philippines in 1972, and the arrival of the first Spanish Sisters. They came with a mission for the Hansenites and the putting up of the Dormitory for the young ladies studying in the Universities of Manila, which is called Our Lady’s Home Dormitory. This was a dormitory that provided to each resident a family an atmosphere of a home away from home, the same Home where our Lady of Mount CarmelL dwells.
After the talk , the merienda was served, and each participant received 5 kilos of rice. This serves as a one week food supply of the family.
