Every August 28, our Family commemorates in a special way Saint Joaquina de Vedruna, who on that day in 1854 departed to her final reunion with the Father.
In this year in which we celebrate the bicentennial of our Congregation, we give thanks for the selfless life of our Foundress, who walked hand in hand with the Good Jesus for 71 years, making her life a concrete response to the needs of her time.
Joaquina de Vedruna died in Barcelona, a victim of a cholera outbreak that ravaged the city in 1854. At the Casa de Caridad in that city, she had founded a community of sisters called to accompany and serve those most in need.
In this interview, Sister María Teresa Llach gives us insight into the history of this institution and helps us discover how that drive to educate, heal, and liberate—so deeply rooted in Joaquina—continues to beat within our Family today.
