On July 16, the Vedruna educational community of St. Ursula EI joyfully celebrated Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in an atmosphere of faith, familiarity and joy. A beautiful carpet prepared by the students of the Art workshop adorned the floor of the sports center. The motto: “With Mary, woman and mother, we are stronger” gave a glimpse of the meaning of the celebration. The choir fused our voices in songs of love, hope, glory and trust.
The celebration began with the Virgen del Carmen carried on the shoulders of the promotional students. Professor Patricia Olivares and student Romina Guarnizo explained to the assembly the biblical texts and the meaning of this popular Marian feast. Romina reminded us that as we “celebrate Our Lady of Mount Carmel, let us ask from our hearts for her protection against the evil that stalks our world, may she be our guide and our strength to overcome the many struggles we will have with ourselves, with others or with society”. Professor Patricia insisted on the availability to God’s plans, even if this implies leaving our own project, imitating Mary’s yes: “Let it be done to me according to your Word. Let it be done to me according to your dream”.
During this community celebration, the students of the Class of 2024 were presented with their scapulars. All: students, workers, teachers, directors, families and alumni prayed for them to receive with devotion this sacrament of Marian love and faith. They ended this exciting moment by confidently abandoning themselves into Mary’s hands, as she did into God’s hands.
The dance group was also present with “Los Diablicos” to portray how the archangel Michael together with Mary overcomes evil.
During the liturgy the educational community collected in solidarity food that will be destined to the most vulnerable in our town.
