Advent, a time to share and rejoice the lives of older adults

In this time of Advent, the members of the Vedruna Youth Mission and the confirmation group of the Vedruna School of San Felipe, Chile, together with the teacher and responsible for the pastoral, Gleny Acevedo have dedicated time to prepare some “onces” (afternoon snack) full of details for the elderly of the parish of Andacollo.

A month ago they started to collect money to buy a gift for each one and to prepare everything they wanted to offer them. This week they enthusiastically baked some delicious Christmas cookies to serve and give to each of the 15 guests.

In a simple atmosphere, they treated the guests to a beautiful afternoon in which, in addition to offering them chocolate milk, Easter bread, cake and sandwiches, they played lottery with prizes provided by them.

We thank God for this experience that allows young people to experience that“we are happy when we give ourselves to others” and that their desire to be in solidarity makes them be creative and perform actions that bring joy and hope to other people who have already given their lives and often experience loneliness.
