The Extended General Council (EGC) of the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity Vedruna will begin on March 9 in Vic. It is a meeting of government that takes place between two General Chapters and that allows to evaluate the road travelled and to project the steps of the Congregation towards the future. It will take place between March 9 and 23, 2026.
CGA 2026 in Vic
This EGC is celebrated at a particularly significant moment: the Bicentenary of the founding of the Congregation, initiated in 1826 by Joaquina de Vedruna in the city of Vic.
Two centuries ago, Joaquina gathered a small group of women with the desire to respond to the needs of their time, especially in the areas of education and care for the sick and vulnerable. Since then, the congregation has spread to several continents, keeping alive the charism of educating and healing.
Celebrating the EGC in Vic during this Jubilee year has a strong symbolic value: to return to the place of origin to give thanks for the road traveled and to discern how to continue living the Vedruna charism in the world today.
Sessions open to the public
During the EGC there will be three moments open to the public, which can be followed online:
- Monday, March 9, 9:30 a.m., Spanish time: opening of the EGC
- Thursday, March 12, 4:00 p.m., Spanish time: illumination by Mariola López. “Consecrated Life: a hope that transforms”.
- Monday, March 16, 12:00 noon, Spanish time: Liliana Franco’s illumination. “Evangelical minority, synod experience”.
Access to all open sessions will be through the following Zoom link:
What is a CGA?
The Extended General Council (EGC) is a space for meeting and discernment held between two General Chapters, which take place every six years. This type of meeting was created in 1975, when the capitulars expressed the desire to broaden participation in the governance of the Congregation.
Since then, the EGC has three main objectives:
- evaluating the implementation of the congregational project
- to know the reality of the Institute in the different countries
- strengthen the unity of the Congregation
Three verbs that continue to guide this space for dialogue and discernment today.
Who participates in the EGC?
The participants are:
- General Government Team: includes the General Team, the General Administrator and the General Secretary.
- Provincial and Delegation Teams. These teams represent the different realities of the Congregation in the world. You can get to know them in these interviews:
- International commissions, dedicated to work on specific issues.
