Hope Blooms in Love: A Pre-Lenten Recollection in Suao, Illuminating the Jubilee Year

As the vibrant spirit of the Jubilee Year of Hope unfolds, 33 bright and eager Dominican students embarked on a transformative Pre-Lenten Recollection, held in the serene landscapes of Suao, from February 14th to 15th, 2025.

Under the luminous theme, “Hope Blooms in Love: Cultivating Connection and Renewal”, the event served as a beacon, illuminating the path towards personal growth, strengthened community, and unwavering faith. Organized by the dedicated Campus Ministry and Religious Studies Departments of the Dominican International School, Taipei, this enriching recollection was a haven for students to explore the profound connection between Hope, rooted in the boundless love of God, and the flourishing potential within each individual.

Through a series of thoughtfully designed activities, participants discovered how to nurture this love, fostering a spirit of renewal within their hearts and minds. Guiding this journey of self-discovery were seven esteemed facilitators including Sr. Rosa Dabhi, CCV actively involved in the liturgical celebrations. Their guidance provided a nurturing environment where each student could blossom.

The activities, carefully crafted to embody the spirit of Hope, were a testament to creativity, collaboration, and profound reflection:

  • First, the Drawing HOPE from Prayer and Orientation: The recollection commenced with a prayerful atmosphere and engaging orientation, setting the stage for a transformative journey.
  • Second, the Word in Bloom: Students delved into the beauty of God’s Word through creative reflections inspired by the vibrant symbolism of blooming flowers, allowing them to connect faith with the wonders of nature.
  • Third, the “Mr. and Ms. Hope”: This engaging activity challenged students to showcase their ingenuity, teamwork, and communication skills, personifying the spirit of the Jubilee Year through the character of “Lucy”.
  • Last, the Day of Discovery and Connection: The final day offered a delightful blend of hands-on activities, including DIY projects, dynamic group exercises designed to strengthen bonds, and a rejuvenating seashore relaxation session.

The entire recollection culminated in a deeply moving Holy Mass held at the Shrine of Saint Camillus. The presider, with inspiring words, connected the theme of the recollection to the Gospel’s core message: “The greatest Commandment is to love God and others”.

The service was a powerful reaffirmation of faith and commitment. This shared experience further cemented the bonds of community and friendship, leaving them with renewed hearts and a shared understanding of God’s love. As the students prepared to depart, the air buzzed with a palpable sense of hope. The recollection had ignited a flame within them, providing a guiding light to illuminate their paths forward. They carried with them not just memories, but a renewed faith, a strengthened sense of community, and the profound knowledge that Hope, rooted in love, truly blooms. This experience stands as a testament to the power of faith, the strength of community, and the unwavering hope that guides us all, especially during this Jubilee Year of Hope.
