“Joaquina Embraces Us” at the Vedruna Educators’ Conference

For the past five years, the Vedruna Education Foundation has held an annual gathering for educators at its schools. It is a unique opportunity to explore the shared identity and Vedruna values that inspire the educational work of all the schools.

On June 26 and 27, the 5th Conference was held in Madrid at the Vedruna schools in Villaverde and Carabanchel. More than 300 teachers from all over Spain participated in this year’s event, sharing experiences, professional development, and moments of fellowship.

In 2026, the event also held special significance as it was part of the Vedruna Bicentennial celebration. Among its objectives were:

  • Celebrate the Bicentennial in a spirit of family, joy, and gratitude.
  • Highlight best practices implemented in schools in celebration of the Bicentennial.
  • Share the challenges and questions facing the Vedruna School today.
  • To strengthen the learning community and shared mission among Vedruna educators.
  • Let us give thanks to God for these 200 years of educational and charismatic life.

The program included workshops on best practices for the Bicentennial at the schools, a performance of Inma Guerrero’s monologue “Joaquina en clave de A,” and a shared reflection on “Being Born Again at the Vedruna School, a roundtable discussion featuring Sisters María Teresa Cuervo Buitrago, Superior General of the Congregation, and M. Gracia Gil, Provincial of Europe.

The gathering concluded on Saturday with a Mass at the Almudena Cathedral and a festive dinner.

The participants spoke very highly of the experience, highlighting the opportunity to come together, reflect, and share as an educational community. As a grand finale, the venue for the next gathering was announced: in 2027, it will be hosted by the three Vedruna Schools in León.
