Mintong Vedruna Sisters Celebrate the Bicentenary

Vedruna Sisters at Mintong celebrated the presence of 200 years of our Congregation on the 28th of August- the Feast Day of St. Joaquina de Vedruna. It was a grace-filled occasion, marked by deep gratitude for God’s faithfulness and the inspiring legacy which we have inherited.

The celebration began on the right note, with the Holy Eucharist. Sr. Joysline welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of this historic milestone, recalling the humble beginnings, made by St. Joaquina in 1826 and how her generous response to God’s call flourished into a mission that continues to touch and transform lives across the remotest peripheries of the world.

The Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Surjit, SDB, Parish Priest of Mintong, who reflected on the life and witness of St. Joaquina, focusing on her faithfulness and courage in following God’s call despite the many obstacles and trials she encountered. Her life reminded all that unwavering faith and trust in the providence of God can transform challenges into opportunities for growth and service.

The joyful festivity continued in the evening with a colourful cultural programme presented by the hostel children. Through various cultural performances, the children expressed their joy, gratitude and appreciation for the blessing of Vedruna presence in Mintong. The skit on the life of St. Joaquina, beautifully enacted by the children, grabbed everyone’s attention as they replayed her inspiring life and mission.

The preparatory days of the feast, offered the students an opportunity to discover the history, spirituality and mission of the Vedruna Congregation, know St. Joaquina more closely, and draw inspiration from her life. The presence of the religious and people from the nearby centers multiplied our joy. The Bicentenary became a grateful celebration of God’s blessings and a renewed invitation to carry forward the Vedruna mission.
