On December 14, in the cathedral of the Apostolic Vicariate of Pucallpa, we had a very important event, in line with what has been the Amazonian synod and the synod of synodality.
38 women and men from the riverine and rural villages were preparing, on the 13th and 14th, to receive the “ministry of the animator-catechist”, a mission that they have been carrying out for more than 10 years in the different places where they live.
It is the first time that an event like this has been held in the Vicariate: to publicly recognize, before the universal church, the work of these women and men who have maintained and strengthened the faith in the different places of the Vicariate.
The ceremony was marked by simplicity, symbols and emotion. It is a big commitment (5 years), it is to recognize before their community and before the universal church the importance of ministries in the life and animation of Christian life and evangelization. They are the feet, the hands, the word, the listening of the people of God who walk, who live in the middle of the Amazon.
When signing the commitment, before Monsignor Martin Quijano, many of them were filled with emotion, their faces with tears of joy and fear, and at the same time with strength and the desire to continue with courage what they were signing.
This event is a further step. We ask the Lord to continue to accompany these new ministers of the Word every day and to raise up lay vocations who want to continue proclaiming the Kingdom of Jesus today.
