Vedruna commitment to the right to housing in Europe: campaign “For a present with decent housing”.

The Vedruna Europa Province has launched the campaign “For a present with decent housing”, with the aim of making visible the housing emergency and claiming the human right to housing for all people.

We believe that decent housing is much more than having a physical space: it is a home where one can live with security, intimacy, rootedness and dignity. We promote a vision of housing as a common good and not as an object of speculation, based on values of solidarity, social justice and community support.

Why this campaign

The campaign denounces the situation of residential exclusion that currently affects many people and families in Spain and Italy, the two countries of Vedruna presence in Europe today, where access to decent housing is no longer guaranteed. As Vedruna Family, we defend that home should not be a privilege, but a basic and essential right.

This initiative is also part of the celebration of the Bicentennial of the Congregation, and wants to be a call to the entire Vedruna Family – communities, foundations, schools, laity and volunteers – to become actively involved in the defense of this right.

Objectives and lines of action

The campaign has four main lines of action:

  1. Sensitization and awareness of the reality of residential exclusion, its causes and consequences.
  2. Welcoming and accompanying individuals and families in vulnerable situations, promoting open and committed communities.
  3. Promotion of social and restorative justice, rejecting real estate speculation and promoting fair access to housing.
  4. Building alliances with other organizations, administrations and social movements working for the right to housing.

After reading the complete manifesto, available in several languages, we encourage individuals and organizations to sign up to support the campaign:
