Vocation Week in the Dominican Republic

As a Dominican Church we celebrate Vocation Week every year in the month of November. The celebration was from the 3rd to the 9th and the theme was “Prayer, source of vocation”.

We joined this ecclesial event in different activities: in the Diocese of La Vega and in the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo.

The VMY team and each community of sisters committed ourselves to live in a vocational key towards young people.

We carry out different activities:

  • We intensified our personal and community prayer, giving thanks and asking the Lord of the harvest to send workers to his harvest.
  • We carry out different reflective dialogues with young people and adolescents in the educational centers where we are, based on the dynamics of vocation as a response to the Lord’s call.
  • On Saturday, November 2, we had a vocational meeting in the Villa Mella house with several young women from our communities, awakening in them a taste for knowing Jesus and his followers, the saints (St. Joaquina). They were very happy and encouraged by the meeting, welcoming the proposal to be accompanied as a group to continue to know Jesus.
  • We participated in a television program on the “Voice of Mary” channel in the city of La Vega, witnessing the conviction and joy of the choice of religious life in the following of Jesus, speaking of the gift that is the Vedruna Charism.
  • On Sunday the 9th we participated in the closing of the vocation week with a great meeting of the youth in the Church of St. Dominic called JAMAR (archdiocesan youth hand in hand with the Archbishop). There, all of us, consecrated life, priests and a multitude of young people gathered to pray, celebrate, witness and make visible the gift of vocation and the gift of the different charisms to the Church. It was wonderful to meet thousands of young people and teenagers enjoying this significant event of faith and fraternity.
  • The sisters of the Sabaneta community participated in the closing Eucharist at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with all the religious life of the Diocese of La Vega.

Grateful for this new opportunity to continue sharing and offering the wonderful gift of our Vedruna charism to the youth and the world of today, we can only say THANK YOU for all that we have experienced, wishing that the young women of today respond generously to the invitation of the Good Jesus.
