Weavers of our history: panel of experiences on the anniversary of the birth of Joaquina de Vedruna

To celebrate the 243rd anniversary of Joaquina’s birth, last Thursday, April 16, the Vedruna Europe Province gathered in an online meeting several sisters who have dedicated part of their lives to deepen the life and charism of the foundress.

Sisters Ana María Alonso, María Teresa Llach, M. Antònia Gillibets, Yolanda Moreno and Mabel Burgell intervened to present the different aspects on which they have researched over many years: the historical context in which Joaquina lived, her spirituality and following of the Gospel, or her educational spirit.

Sister Sisita Fiol, who was Sister General of our Congregation, referred to all the participants as “Matriarchs […], weavers who have worked with a very particular thread, which is the fire of Joaquina. That fire that was not extinguished with their time and that they have been able to translate into different languages”.

The activity was organized by the Bicentennial Commission of the Province, as part of the proposals to celebrate the 200th anniversary of our Congregation. The objective of this meeting was “to make a grateful memory of the birth of Joaquina, not a memory that looks at the past with nostalgia, but one capable of recognizing life as a gift received,” as Eva Lopez said at the opening of the event.

Sister Provincial of Europe, Maria Gracia Gil, also took part in the meeting and thanked them for sharing so much about our history, which helps “not only to teach us who we are, but also to make us proud to be who we are”.
