On the fourth Sunday of Lent, or Laetare (“Rejoice”) Sunday, the Jesuit Refugee Service presents the testimony of Oussama, a teenage computer prodigy who has been able to design a monitoring system that allows his family to dam the water that falls on the roof of their home. Seeing how their son can develop these enormous potentials is a comfort to his parents, who were forced to leave home, in Reef Damascus, along with nearly seven million people who fled Syria for Lebanon since 2011.
“My Father, why have you forsaken me?” we read in the prayer for this Fourth Sunday of Lent. “Through our actions, our words, our thoughts,” continues the supplication, “make us grow in humanity.
