On the fifth and last Sunday of Lent, close to the time for the Son of Man to be glorified, the Jesuit Refugee Service puts the spotlight on Afghanistan and its nearly six million displaced persons since 2012.
The nightmare continues, especially for women, the main victims of the Taliban’s return to power.
The forty-day journey towards Easter in the company of refugees from all over the world that we have joined as the Vedruna Family closes with this poem by a young Afghan woman:
“To the days when on the last day of the month, I would go to the bank, take out the
money I had worked hard to earn, I would go to the market and buy what I needed.
I wanted.
To the days when I was proud to be a woman, when I was proud to be a woman, when I was proud to be a woman, when I was proud to be a woman.
I walked all over my city without any restrictions because I was a woman.
On the days when I left home, I saw my tricolor flag all over the place.
the city and it felt good to see it.
To the days when I lived with passion and hope for the future”.
