Migration is a right: Rally in Zaragoza denounces humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean

As every third Wednesday of the month, on May 17, 2023, the VIC Foundation together with other organizations of the Aragonese Federation of Solidarity we concentrate in Zaragoza keeping 5 minutes of silence and showing on a banner the number of deaths in the year trying to reach the Spanish coasts, which already amount to 163.

“Today, the Mediterranean is the deadliest border on the planet for migrants to Europe. The causes of this shameful situation are rooted in the lack of legal and safe routes and in the failure of the Spanish and European governments to comply with international law on migration, refuge and asylum”.

Free to choose whether to migrate or to stay” is the motto proposed by Pope Francis for the upcoming World Day of Migrants and Refugees to be celebrated on September 24.

The Vedruna Family is committed to “the right not to have to flee one’s own country”. This requires “respect for human rights and fair economic, fiscal, trade and environmental policies that help to stop plundering and reduce poverty and inequality”.
