The Season of Creation is an ecumenical celebration that takes place each year between September 1 and October 4, dedicated to prayer and actions in defense of the environment.
For our Vedruna Family, caring for the planet and promoting a spirituality that integrates ecology and social justice are fundamental. That is why, for years now, we have been living this season with great awareness.
World Day of Prayer for Creation
The Season of Creation begins today, September 1, a tradition established by Pope Francis more than ten years ago. It is inspired by an ancient liturgical tradition of the Eastern Church, according to which September 1 is the day that symbolizes the act of the creation of the world.
New this year is the“Mass for the Care of Creation,”instituted by Pope Leo XIV, which includes biblical readings and prayers specific to this occasion and has recently been added to the Missal. Several sisters from the General Team participated in the presentation of this liturgy:
Available resources
To experience this time with depth and meaning, resources to help us prepare have already been published. The theme for 2026 is “Living Water,” based on the words of Ezekiel 47:9 and 12, highlighting its biblical vision of hope and ecological healing.
The symbol represents the water flowing from the Temple of God: at first it is a small stream that grows deeper and deeper, and in doing so, brings life to barren areas and restores the fertility of damaged or infertile ecosystems. Healing comes through living water, but to receive new life, we too must enter the water and become part of the river of the vine. God’s work, participating in the healing of creation.
