On Sunday, October 11 , the young people of the Vedruna Youth Mission (MJV) at El Ermitaño in Lima gathered to carry the Vedruna flame to the residents of the Casa de las Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados, where 135 elderly men and women live.
It was a morning filled with joy, fellowship, and camaraderie. We shared stories, smiles, dances, and games, creating cherished moments in which all the grandfathers and grandmothers were able to enjoy themselves, feel welcomed, and be recognized for their dignity and importance.
For those of us who took part in this mission, the experience was deeply enriching. It helped us remember our own grandparents fondly, and also imagine what it would have been like to meet them, since some of us never had that opportunity.
Every mission we undertake leaves a mark on our lives and helps us discover the value of giving ourselves to others. In this way, we continue to bring to life the words of Saint Joaquina de Vedruna: “Love, and more love—for love never says ‘enough.’”
Because carrying the Vedruna flame means sharing love, bringing smiles to people’s faces, and turning every encounter into an opportunity to love and serve.
